National IOD award shortlisting for Forgemasters’ non executive director
16 August 2011
Forgemasters will represent South Yorkshire in a national awards ceremony for the second year running after being shortlisted in the Institute of Directors’ Director of the Year Awards.
Peter Birtles, non executive director at Sheffield Forgemasters is a finalist in the Large Business category – the award Forgemasters’ chief executive Dr Graham Honeyman won last year.
In 2010, Dr Honeyman was named the first IoD “Overall Director of the Year", "Global Director of the Year" and winner of "The Investing for Growth Award".
Mr Birtles’ shortlisting follows him being named Yorkshire Non Executive Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors’ annual regional awards last year.
As an non executive director Peter works closely with the SFIL board on a continued financial and educational reinvestment programme. This programme has majored on reinvesting all profits to update plant machinery, to invest in new technologies, with a strong emphasis on building up the company’s unique skills base through a dedicated apprenticeship scheme and the drive to seek out and service niche markets.
Forgemasters is one of five Yorkshire companies recognised for their efforts at the awards. Also up for awards at the ceremony in London on September 23 will be Brandon Medical, Masternaut UK, Wold Top Brewery and Boost Drinks.
