Sheffield Forgemasters will play a key role in educating the next and current generations of engineers during the city’s Global Manufacturing Festival.

International business leaders and local school children have been invited to a program of guided tours at Sheffield Forgemasters (SFIL).

As one of the key contributors, SFIL will host two, invite-only works tours during the festival which runs from March 14-24, where visitors will see how a modern manufacturing company operates.

Graham Honeyman, chief executive at SFIL, said: “The guided tours for local schools and colleges will give 200 young people from the Sheffield region a taste of how modern manufacturing contrasts to images they see from their history books, thereby giving the next generation an insight into the wide variety of skills required, and careers available, within today's manufacturing industry.

“This festival is the sort of event that Sheffield should be showcasing its skills through to the world. The skills and innovative work we the British Manufacturer can provide at home in the UK and around the world, are second to none”.

The VIP visits taking business delegates around key areas of the 63-acre-site will follow the convention dinner where Honeyman will join other speakers from the manufacturing, engineering and politics fields to discuss the future opportunities and issues facing the sector.

The Global Manufacturing Festival aims to reaffirm the UK’s position as a global leader in advanced engineering and manufacturing innovation. The festival is made up of a series of focused events, exhibitions, conferences and workshops, with leading global representatives from the world of manufacturing, engineering, politics and education.

The Global Manufacturing Festival: Sheffield is sponsored by Nabarro LLP and Firth Rixson
