BMPCA appoint Forgemasters manager as chairman
02 December 2010
Sheffield Forgemasters' Mick Holloway has been appointed chairman of The British Manufacturing Plant Constructors Association.
Mick is senior sales manager (heavy castings) at Sheffield Forgemasters International Limited and has more than 30 years experience in steel and engineering sectors.
He has been a member of the association since 2008 and takes over the reins from Sheffield's Kevin Parkin who stepped down as chairman this autumn after serving a two year term.
Mick said: "Kevin, and vice chairman Mike Sorby, have helped guide the association through one of the worst economic recessions in modern times.
"Despite losing some members resulting from voluntary liquidation and business reorganisations the BMPCA has continued to host successful events and now have annual fixtures on the calendar.
"The association, as a result of their efforts, is now in much better shape to proceed with confidence into the next decade and I look forward to playing a major part in its continued development."
The association recently changed its name to the BMPCA to reflect the ever increasing diversification of the members into markets other than metallurgical equipment including defence, nuclear, energy and leisure.
It serves as the forum for engineering companies where members can identify and maximize common opportunities. Sheffield Forgemasters is a long standing member.
It also introduced a new grade of membership opening up the association to non-profit making bodies associated with research and academia and formed a strategic alliance with NAMTEC (the National Metals Technology Centre) and its associated Special Metals Forum to promote events, meetings and activities.
