Finance Director award for Sheffield Forgemasters
24 September 2010
Neil Maskrey, chief financial officer at Sheffield Forgemasters International Limited, was named Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year for a Limited Company at a regional awards ceremony.
Neil was among the region's elite finance directors honoured at the Yorkshire Finance Director of the Year Awards 2010.
Sheffield Forgemasters flew the flag for the city as the only Sheffield-based business to be nominated and was in prestigious company amongst organisations including Austin Reed, Mamas & Papas and Card Factory.
The awards, now in their ninth year, recognised the key contribution of the region's top finance directors and their ability to adapt to changing market conditions and were sponsored by Ernst & Young, Hammonds, Sewell Moorhouse and Santander.
Neil said: "My responsibility has been to lead SFIL financially through this demanding recession over the last two years - the worse since the 1980's. We have seen the most challenging financing market conditions in the last year.
"I hope my work has helped to transform the finance function to better equip the company to meet global challenges and laid the foundations for increased efficiency and productivity. The finance function is now increasingly seen both externally and internally as a key organisational asset to drive business competitiveness and effectiveness."
Neil joined Sheffield Forgemasters in October 2008 at a pivotal time in the company's history and has played a key role in the 15k tonne press project.
Forgemasters had seen superb levels of growth since the management buyout in 2005 and Neil's role looked at ways to continue that growth and add to the value of the finance department and the company as a whole through increased market reach and placing heavy re-investment at the forefront of its development.
Last week Neil's fellow SFIL board member Peter Birtles picked up Yorkshire Non Executive Director of the Year at the Institute of Directors' annual regional awards.
Forgemasters' chief executive Graham Honeyman has been shortlisted for the Global Director of the Year award at the Institute of Directors awards UK Final 2010. Winners will be announced in London on October 1.
