Forgemasters presented with third Queen's Award
22 September 2008
Sheffield Forgemasters has been officially presented with The Queen's Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2008 by the Lord-Lieutenant for South Yorkshire.
Forgemasters was awarded the prestigious honour for its impressive recent record for international exports earlier this year. The Lord-Lieutenant, David Moody, who is the Queen's representative in the area, read a Citation signed by Her Majesty and Prime Minister Gordon Brown at the company's Brightside Lane factory.
The Lord-Lieutenant presented The Queen's Award and the Citation to Dr Graham Honeyman, chief executive at Forgemasters and Keith Bell, Forgemasters' longest serving employee of more than 48 years.
He also met with a group of Forgemasters' employees including senior management at the event which was attended by 100 people from the company.
Lord-Lieutenant David Moody said: "The last few years have been a very interesting time for Sheffield Forgemasters.
"Just over a year ago this historic company was heavily flooded and fifteen months later it is performing outstandingly well and making a significant contribution to the region. It is with great pleasure that I present the award on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to Sheffield Forgemasters."
This is the company's third Queen's award. It follows Export and Technology Awards in 1989 and 1997 respectively.
Dr Graham Honeyman, chief executive at Forgemasters, said: "As a company we have won a number of awards in the last 12 months but the Queen's Award is the most historic and prestigious of them all and we are delighted to receive this great honour."
The Queen's Awards are the UK's most prestigious awards for business performance and are presented solely on merit.
In order to win the award for International Trade, businesses must be able to demonstrate substantial growth in overseas earnings and commercial success, to levels that are outstanding for the goods or services concerned and for the size of their operations, as well as their contribution toward sustainability.
