Cutlers Company awards Forgemasters
02 August 2007
Dr Graham Honeyman has received the Gold Award for Manufacturing Excellence by the Cutlers Company.
Sheffield Forgemasters' chief executive received the award from Alderman Mr John Stuttard, the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of the City of London, at the Cutlers Company's forfeit feast.
The award comes only weeks after Sheffield Forgemasters were badly hit by the sudden flooding of Sheffield's East End.
The Master Cutler, Alan Reid, who headed the award panel, said: "We hope this comes as a gleam of good news in what otherwise could have been a miserable month for this fine company.
The award, he said, recognised the huge success achieved in growing the business after a management buy-out in 2005.
The company now has an order book worth £100m, export sales have risen to some 80 per cent and the company has enrolled a significant intake of new apprentices.
Mr Reid said: "Although Dr Honeyman would be the first to stress that it is down to team work, someone has to build, inspire and lead that team. We have no doubt that this person is Dr Honeyman. He is a worthy recipient of the award for the individual who has contributed most to manufacturing excellence in Hallamshire."
Dr Honeyman said: "I feel extremely privileged to receive such a prestigious award on behalf of the company.
"I want to make it clear that this medal is for all of the diligent staff at Sheffield Forgemasters who have worked to maintain our standards of excellence."
