LEEA Award win for Sheffield Forgemasters

Published: 28 November 2023

Sheffield Forgemasters is delighted to announce that the company has won the Safety Award at the 2023 LEEA Awards.

The company was handed the winning prize at the 2023 LEEA Awards ceremony at The Rum Warehouse, Liverpool, on the 21st of November.

The Safety Award category is on offer for interventions that have clearly and directly made our industry safer, such as a new product or internal processes that have effectively managed risk – such as training, records, communications or updates.

Sheffield Forgemasters won the award for its web-based lifting calculator, which ensures complete safety and correct selection/application of slings and other lifting gear using the D/d (Diameter: diameter) ratio as a crucial parameter.

This initiative is in place across our 64-acre site, including Melt Shop, Foundry, Forge, Machine Shops, Pattern Shop and finishing areas. The introduction of this has virtually eliminated lifting gear failures since its inception.

Huge thanks to our Health & Safety and RD&T teams, for delivering this great initiative.
