Internal Charity Football Tournament Smashes Support Dogs Target

Published: 24 June 2025

On Thursday 5 June, 16 teams of Sheffield Forgemasters employees and on-site embedded contractors came together at the Steel City Stadium in the name of charity.

Our annual charity football tournament came down to nail-biting penalties with the Melt Shop Maintenance team crowned the winners for the third time.

But the biggest winners were Support Dogs. The team entry fees and the on-the-night raffle raised an incredible £3,028.69, smashing last year’s total and representing over 15% of our long-term £20,000 target.

“I want to say on behalf of the business a huge thank you to everyone for your generosity at this event, and over the last few years towards helping the Support Dogs charity. We’ve now raised over £21,000 which will pay for training one specialist dog and transform the lives of someone in our community.” said Gareth Barker, Chief Operating Officer.

Based in Sheffield, Support Dogs train puppies to assist a person with epilepsy, physical disability or a child with autism transforming their lives.
