Sheffield Forgemasters produces the largest and most technically demanding castings in the World.
Sheffield Forgemasters' foundry is one of the largest in the world and can produce finished machined steel components up to 350 tonnes. A casting of this size will start with a liquid steel volume of over 600 tonnes.
Our foundry is equipped with bottom pour ladles which reduces the slag present in castings and, in turn, imperfections in the finished product.
The vast majority of castings produced in our foundry start out as a wooden pattern, which is produced by our in-house pattern shop.
Once finished, the wooden pattern is used to make a mould in sand. The sand is then hardened and the wooden pattern removed.
The sand mould then becomes the final mould into which the liquid steel is poured.
Once the steel has cooled and solidified, the sand mould is removed from the piece and reused in other mould making.

Our main area of expertise includes heavy, complex and difficult castings. Our company has over 200 years' experience in casting steel and we have a wealth of knowledge, from design to delivery and everything in between.
Our castings are used in extremely critical environments, such as Civil Nuclear and Defence, where the material requirements of finished components are exacting.
We supply complex steels grades such as HY80, HY100 and NQ1, up to thicknesses that most foundries can not match.
