Sheffield Forgemasters was at the forefront of cast node development, in the 1980s, to overcome fatigue problems with welded nodes. Since then the company has supplied large numbers of nodes, mainly for use in the harsh environment of the North Sea.
More recently, nodes are routinely supplied as lifting points for use during jacket installation. These take the form of trunnion nodes, with hubs, and pad-eyes.
